Good evening. This is Nordic Crypto. Tonight: how crypto and bitcoin rules are decided and enforced in Norway.

Norway and Iceland are in the European Economic Area, not the EU. MiCA reaches them through the EEA Agreement, then national law.

MiCA applies in Norway through the EEA Agreement, given effect by the Crypto-Assets Act from 1 July 2025.

In Norway, Finansdepartementet prepares the financial-markets bills. Stortinget adopts the national acts. The national law that shapes crypto supervision here is the Crypto-Assets Act: Lov om kryptoeiendeler (LOV-2025-05-27-20).

Finanstilsynet is the financial supervisor that licences and oversees crypto-asset service providers under MiCA. Norges Bank oversees payment systems and studies central-bank digital currency; it is not the MiCA licensing authority.

Suspicious transactions are reported to the financial intelligence unit: Økokrim. Tax on crypto-assets is handled by Skatteetaten. Disputes and appeals go to the ordinary courts (tingrett, lagmannsrett, Høyesterett).

Six CASPs authorised by Finanstilsynet as of 3 Oct 2026: Týr Markets, Firi, K33 Markets, Bare Bitcoin, NBX and AK Jensen Norway. A temporary ban on new power-intensive crypto data centres is being studied but not adopted.

That is how the rules work in Norway. For the full map across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland, with a source for every step, see the Nordic Crypto rules page. Nothing here is legal advice. The Nordic Crypto team. Good night.

Good evening. This is Nordic Crypto. Tonight: how crypto and bitcoin rules are decided and enforced in Sweden.

Sweden, Denmark and Finland are EU members, so MiCA applies directly as EU law.

MiCA applies directly as EU law. Sweden's complementary act names Finansinspektionen as the national competent authority.

In Sweden, Finansdepartementet prepares the financial-markets bills. Riksdagen adopts the national acts. The national law that shapes crypto supervision here is the Swedish MiCA complementary act: Lag (2024:1159).

Finansinspektionen is the financial supervisor that licences and oversees crypto-asset service providers under MiCA. Sveriges Riksbank works on the e-krona and payment systems; it is not the MiCA licensing authority.

Suspicious transactions are reported to the financial intelligence unit: Finanspolisen at Polismyndigheten. Tax on crypto-assets is handled by Skatteverket. Disputes and appeals go to the general courts (tingsrätt, hovrätt, Högsta domstolen) and administrative courts for licence appeals.

One FI-authorised CASP (Safello) as of 30 Jun 2026, plus 77 firms passporting from other EU countries. Two refusals (Valuno's QB Europe AB, GreenMerc's Ijort Invest AB). A new government was still being formed in early October 2026.

Good evening. This is Nordic Crypto. Tonight: how crypto and bitcoin rules are decided and enforced in Denmark.

Sweden, Denmark and Finland are EU members, so MiCA applies directly as EU law.

MiCA applies directly as EU law. Finanstilsynet authorises crypto-asset service providers under MiCA Article 63, as set out in the Financial Business Act.

In Denmark, Erhvervsministeriet prepares the financial-markets bills. Folketinget adopts the national acts. The national law that shapes crypto supervision here is the Financial Business Act provisions on MiCA authorisation: Lov om finansiel virksomhed § 332 c.

Finanstilsynet is the financial supervisor that licences and oversees crypto-asset service providers under MiCA. Danmarks Nationalbank is the central bank for monetary policy and payments; it is not the MiCA licensing authority.

Suspicious transactions are reported to the financial intelligence unit: Hvidvasksekretariatet within NSK. Tax on crypto-assets is handled by Skattestyrelsen. Disputes and appeals go to the ordinary courts, with administrative review of supervisory decisions where the law provides for it.

There is no separate crypto tax act; Skattestyrelsen applies the general tax rules to crypto-assets.

Good evening. This is Nordic Crypto. Tonight: how crypto and bitcoin rules are decided and enforced in Finland.

Sweden, Denmark and Finland are EU members, so MiCA applies directly as EU law.

MiCA applies directly as EU law. Act 402/2024 supplements MiCA; under its section 2, Finanssivalvonta supervises compliance.

In Finland, Valtiovarainministeriö prepares the financial-markets bills. Eduskunta adopts the national acts. The national law that shapes crypto supervision here is Act 402/2024 on crypto-asset service providers and crypto-asset markets: Laki 402/2024.

Finanssivalvonta (FIN-FSA) is the financial supervisor that licences and oversees crypto-asset service providers under MiCA. Suomen Pankki is the central bank; MiCA licensing and ongoing supervision of crypto-asset service providers sit with Finanssivalvonta.

Suspicious transactions are reported to the financial intelligence unit: Rahanpesun selvittelykeskus within the National Bureau of Investigation. Tax on crypto-assets is handled by Verohallinto. Disputes and appeals go to the general courts and administrative courts for appeals against supervisory decisions.

Five FIN-FSA-authorised CASPs in the ESMA register (Coinmotion, Tesseract, Bittimaatti, Northcrypto, Kvarn X) and one e-money token issuer (Paxos Issuance Europe). Some Swedish firms now operate on Finnish licences (Kvarn, Northcrypto).

Good evening. This is Nordic Crypto. Tonight: how crypto and bitcoin rules are decided and enforced in Iceland.

Iceland is in the European Economic Area, not the EU. MiCA reaches Iceland through the EEA Agreement, then national law. The EEA Joint Committee incorporated MiCA; Alþingi gave it effect through Act No. 101/2025. From 1 July 2026 crypto-asset services require a licence.

In Iceland, Fjármála- og efnahagsráðuneytið prepares the financial-markets bills. Alþingi adopts the national acts. The national law that shapes crypto supervision here is Act No. 101/2025 on markets in crypto-assets: Lög nr. 101/2025.

Seðlabanki Íslands – Fjármálaeftirlit (Financial Supervision) is the financial supervisor that licences and oversees crypto-asset service providers under MiCA. Unlike the other Nordics, the Central Bank of Iceland also houses financial supervision (Fjármálaeftirlit), so the same institution both issues monetary policy and licences crypto-asset service providers under MiCA.

Suspicious transactions are reported to the financial intelligence unit: Skrifstofa fjármálagreininga lögreglu. Tax on crypto-assets is handled by Skatturinn. Disputes and appeals go to the Icelandic courts, including Hæstiréttur for final appeal.

One CASP authorised (Myntkaup, 25 Jun 2026) and one e-money token issuer (Monerium) in the ESMA register.
