In a letter to the Riksdag's Committee on Finance dated 7 October and published on 15 October, Sweden's Riksbank asks that work begin now on the legislation needed for a possible digital krona, Kaupr reports. The Riksbank cites the worsened security situation, plans for a digital euro and the growth of stablecoins, and estimates that an introduction would take at least five years on top of the legislative work. The Riksbank stresses that it has not taken a position on whether a digital krona should be introduced; it proposes that preparations start through a public inquiry, and any issuance would require the Riksdag's consent.
