Kraken owner buys bank with Swedish savings customers

Original title (Swedish): Kryptojätten köper bank med svenska sparkunder

Payward, the US company behind crypto exchange Kraken, is buying Lithuania's Saldo Bank, which has held an EU banking licence since 2021 and offers savings accounts and other services to customers in countries including Sweden, Realtid reports, citing the Financial Times. According to the FT, the deal would make Payward the first company in the digital-asset sector to buy a bank in Europe, and the bank is meant to help it develop lending and payment cards. The acquisition requires regulatory approval and is expected to be completed in 2027.
